Frequently asked questions.

Does insurance cover online/telehealth sessions?

The world changed with COVID, including how we can provide counseling. Most insurance companies cover online sessions the same as they cover in-person. But insurance policies are so varied. I suggest contacting the toll-free number on your card or talking to your HR rep for greater plan detail.

Do you accept private pay clients?

Yes! And sometimes clients pay less than what they would pay if they needed to meet a deductible. There are so many benefits for paying for therapy out of pocket, instead of utilizing insurance. Such as: complete privacy and control over your treatment, most personalized and flexible care , no disruption to care based on authorization or policy limitations, receive support without a diagnostic label and freedom to integrate more integrative options for healing and transformation.

My wi-fi is sometimes unstable, can we still meet?

Technology is great until it isn’t. We have options! If we have scheduled a telehealth session and there is an issue with connection to www.doxy.me/riversjourneycounseling, we can move over to Zoom, and if that doesn’t trouble shoot the issue—we can move over to telephone.

What can I expect for my first session?

Our first session, often called the initial session or intake session, is an opportunity for me to gather more information about you and your counseling needs and goals. I will asked questions to give me a more informed direction for our work together. If there is anything you think is important for me to know, you are welcome to share to your comfort level. This is just our jumping off point!

What are your counseling modalities?

I blend person‑centered, trauma‑informed therapy with CBT, Jungian shadow work, solution‑focused and strength‑based approaches to help clients unravel limiting beliefs, heal emotional pain, and move forward with clarity. I consider myself eclectic, in that I draw from and weave together different theories, modalities and practices to meet each client’s needs.

What does holistic therapy mean?

Holistic therapy is an approach to healing that considers the whole person—mind, body, emotions, and spirit—rather than focusing simply only on symptoms. It blends traditional counseling with practices like mindfulness, energy work, and lifestyle support to foster balance, self-awareness, and lasting well-being. Additionally, I am a Usui Reiki Master‑Teacher and practitioner and can incorporate techniques such as EFT/tapping, meditation, and nature‑based practices to foster deeper healing and resilience.
